Our story begins with a man who was able to defy odds by putting his heart into his work, making sacrifices and persisting through adversity. Our founder and grandfather, David Mosner, was the son of Eastern European immigrants; a self-taught man, who began working at an early age. David set out to begin his career in New York City's competitive meat trade upon his return from service in World War II.
Legend has it that it was a denied request for a five dollar per week raise that propelled David to branch out on his own, but, those who knew our grandfather saw a man that was fiercely entrepreneurial and held great conviction to his values and ideas. In the early 1950's, David entered into business as a sole proprietor and over time, would grow his company into one of the premier niche protein processors on the East Coast.
A New York City Mainstay.
Mosner Family Brands was incorporated in 1957 and had its first home at 631 Brook Avenue in the Bronx, New York. In 1973, David saw an opportunity to expand and became an original shareholder of the Hunts Point Cooperative Market, the major food distribution point in the New York City metropolitan area.
David’s sons, Michael and Philip, joined their father in the early 1980’s and continued to propel the company forward by diversifying its product offerings and leading with a customer-centric, service-driven approach, which has continued to be a core principle of our culture today.
Our Story Continues.
In its third generation of family management, Mosner Family Brands initiated a shift from the company’s former protein-specific model to a mission-based approach to business. In doing so, we dedicated ourselves to the creation of wellness protein programs and set the company off in a new direction.
Mosner Family Brands is one of the pioneers of the local food movement, having promoted New York State and regional farms dedicated to improving farm animal welfare for more than five decades. Most recently, we’ve added 100% grass fed Organic beef and Organic lamb, Organic pork and Organic poultry to our portfolio of programs to ensure that our customers enjoy a breadth of better-for-you meat options.
In our mission to create pasture to plate protein programs for the health and well-being of our animals, people and planet, we take pride in offering our retail and foodservice customers protein options that fulfill our mantra, Quality with Conscience.
